A flexible bipolar querying approach with imprecise data and guaranteed results

چکیده
In this paper, we propose an approach to query a database when the user preferences are bipolar (i.e., express both constraints and wishes about the desired result) and the data stored in the database are imprecise. Results are then completely ordered with respect to these bipolar preferences, giving priority to constraints over wishes. Additionally, we propose a treatment that allows us to guarantee that any query will return a result, even if no element satisfies all constraints specified by the user. Such a treatment may be useful when user’s constraints are unrealistic (i.e., cannot be all satisfied simultaneously) and when the user desires a guaranteed result. The approach is illustrated on a real-world problem concerning the selection of optimal packaging for fresh fruits and vegetables.

Evaluating the efficiency and classifying the fuzzy data: A DEA based approach
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been proven as an efficient technique to evaluate the performance of homogeneous decision making units (DMUs) where multiple inputs and outputs exist. In the conventional applications of DEA, the data are considered as specific numerical values with explicit designation of being an input or output. However, the observed values of the data are sometimes imprec...
متن کاملFlexible SQLf query based on fuzzy linguistic summaries
Data is often partially known, vague or ambiguous in many real world applications. To deal with such imprecise information, fuzziness is introduced in the classical model. SQLf is one of the practical language to deal with flexible fuzzy querying in Fuzzy DataBases (FDB). However, with a huge amount of fuzzy data, the necessity to work with synthetic views became a challenge for many DB communi...
متن کاملDeveloping a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information
With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
متن کاملRemarks on a Fuzzy Approach to Flexible Database Querying, Its Extension and Relation to Data Mining and Summarization
For an effective and efficient information search of databases, various issues should be solved. A very important one, though still usually neglected by traditional database management systems, is related to a proper representation of user preferences and intentions, and then their representation in querying languages. In many scenarios, they are not clear-cut, and often have their original for...
متن کاملHierarchical Fuzzy Sets to Query Possibilistic Databases
Within the framework of flexible querying of possibilistic databases, based on the fuzzy set theory, this chapter focuses on the case where the vocabulary used both in the querying language and in the data is hierarchically organized, which occurs in systems that use ontologies. We give an overview of previous works concerning two issues: firstly, flexible querying of imprecise data in the rela...
